Family History

The first references to Arkuszynski family go as far as twelfth century. At this point my ancestors lived in a small village of Arkuszewo near Gniezno supposedly working as potters.

At one point, part of the family moved to the town of Dabrowa where they started a pottery business. The references to potters from Dabrowa can be found in writings of one of the most famous kings of Poland, Kazimierz Wielki. The king described a dispute between the potters and custodians over raising clay that was needed for clay pots. Kazimierz Wielki’s ordinance was in favour to the potters and gave them the rights to extract clay from that particular region of Poland indefinitely. The very last of my ancestors who lived and worked as a potter in that area was my great-grandfather.

My parents and grandparents have lived in the north of Poland and have owned a pottery business near the small town called Czluchow. This is where I was taught the challenging trade of pottery and now I hope to pass on this experience to you
